ILOs
- to give an overview of the cardiac imagine techniques used clinically, including echocardiography, MRI and coronary angiography
- to understand how echocardiography can be used to demonstrate the normal structure and function of the heart
- to revise the normal anatomy and physiology of the heart, including the ventricles, the valves and the major blood vessels
- to describe how Doppler echocardiography can be used to assess valve function, using velocity measurement and colour flow Doppler
- to illustrate how pathology can result in abnormal ventricle function and valve disease, both stenosis and regurgitation
Part 1 : Introduction
- List some common imaging tests
- How do we assess what imaging technique should be used?
- How would stable angina be investigated?
Part 2 : Non-Invasive (Anatomical) investigations
- Chest X-rays
- 2-D Echocardiogram
- Echo Doppler
- Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Computed tomography of the coronary arteries (CTCA)
