ILOs:
- To identify the bones of the foot and ankle, in particular those forming true ankle (talocrural) joint and subtalar joint and the movements permitted at each
- Discuss the attachments, actions, and innervation of the muscle groups in the leg.
- Have a basic understanding of the structures contributing to/and maintaining the foot arch
- Revise the vascular plan for the lower limb
- Describe the branches of the sciatic nerve and relate these to motor and sensory innervation in the lower limb.

- How many phalanges does the hallux have?
The Ankle Joint
- What are the joints at the ankle?
- What do you feel when you palpate the bony parts of the ankle?
- What type of joint is the talocrural/true ankle joint, what movements does it allow?
- What type of joint is the subtalar joint, what movements does it allow?
- When you are walking, how much of your body weight goes through this joint?
- When you are jumping, how much of your body weight goes through this joint?
- What are the ligaments of the ankle joint and what are its named parts?
- What do these ligaments allow?
