ILOs:
- Understand the concepts of the greater and lesser sacs of the peritoneal cavity and the supra- and infra-colic compartments.
- Recognize stomach, gall bladder, small intestine, large intestine, greater omentum, lesser omentum, epiploic foramen.
- For the intestines, be able to distinguish jejunum, ileum, caecum, appendix, and the regions of colon: ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid.
- Be able to draw an outline of the stomach and label the oesophagus, cardia, fundus, body, pyloric antrum, pyloric canal, pyloric sphincter, greater and lesser curvatures.
- Understand the histological features of the oesophagus and stomach and relate these features to organ function.
- Be able to appreciate the general features of the abdominal walls and contents as seen on clinical imaging and be able to recognize the oesophagus and stomach.
